The American Nurses Foundation was founded in 1955 as the research, education, and charitable affiliate of the American Nurses Association (ANA). Since then, it has fought tirelessly to advance the nursing profession through raising funds for advances in research, education, and clinical practice to the benefit of the whole health care system. The American Nurses Foundation strives to achieve "a healthy world through the power of nursing," and this is more relevant today than ever. With the future of health care changing so dramatically, nurses can revolutionize the approach to care for the better. The Foundation pursues this mission through: (1) elevating the profession of nursing globally; (2) engaging all nurses to ensure professional success; and (3) evolving the practice of nursing to transform health and healthcare.
For more than a year now, our nation's nurses have confronted the greatest challenge of their careers as the COVID-19 pandemic overloads our health care system and ravages our communities. Nurses serve on the front lines, providing critical, highly skilled care while simultaneously being the emotional core in hospitals across the country. As one of the most trusted professions, nurses are still on the frontlines, working tirelessly to protect and care for patients, families, and communities.
To share our appreciation, we will partner with the American Nurses Foundation and its Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses. Caring for nurses in this way translates back into exemplary care for patients since it increases nurses' capacity to pour themselves into their absolutely critical work. Healthier nurses lead to healthier communities.
